SSC Photo Size — 350 × 450 px, 20–50 KB

Resize your photograph to the size Staff Selection Commission forms ask for, then hit the 20–50 KB file limit — in one pass, in your browser.

The SSC photograph must be 350 × 450 pixels and between 20 KB and 50 KB. Use the preset below to set those dimensions, enter 50 in the target size box, and download the result.

How to resize a photo for the SSC form

  1. Add your photograph. Drop in a recent head-and-shoulders photo on a plain light background.
  2. Tap the 350×450 preset. The width and height fill in automatically. Leave "lock ratio" on.
  3. Download at 50 KB. The target size box is already set to 50 — download and upload to the portal.

Specifications occasionally change between recruitment cycles — always check the current notice for the exam you are applying to before you upload.

Why 350 × 450 and not a square

The SSC photograph is a 7:9 portrait rectangle — slightly taller than it is wide. That matters because most phone cameras shoot 3:4 or 9:16, so a straight resize to 350 × 450 will squash your face unless the source is cropped to the right proportion first.

The safe order is crop, then resize. Use Crop to take a 7:9 area centred on your head and shoulders, then come back here and apply the preset. If you resize first and the aspect ratio does not match, either the photo distorts or the tool letterboxes it — and a distorted face is a common reason for rejection.

Hitting 20–50 KB without ruining the photo

At 350 × 450 pixels there are only 157,500 pixels to encode, so 50 KB is a comfortable budget — you will usually land there at high quality with no visible loss. The harder constraint is the lower bound: some portals reject a file that is under 20 KB, on the assumption it is too low quality to identify you.

If your download comes out under 20 KB, raise the quality slider rather than lowering it. A photo of a face against a plain background compresses very efficiently, which is exactly why it can fall below the floor.

Frequently asked questions

What is the photo size for the SSC form?
350 × 450 pixels, with the file between 20 KB and 50 KB, saved as a JPG.
What is the SSC signature size?
140 × 60 pixels and 10–20 KB. Sign on white paper in black ink, photograph or scan it, then use the signature preset above.
My photo is under 20 KB — will it be rejected?
It may be. Some portals enforce a minimum as well as a maximum. Increase the quality slider until the file is comfortably inside 20–50 KB.
Can I use a selfie?
Technically the tool will resize anything, but SSC expects a plain background and a clear front-facing view without a cap or dark glasses. A selfie against a wall usually passes; one taken outdoors usually does not.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The resizing happens on your own device, which matters for an ID photograph — it never leaves your phone or computer.
