Platforms adjust these occasionally. These are the dimensions in use as of 2026 — uploading larger and letting the platform scale down is always safe.
A preset sets size, not composition
These presets apply exact dimensions, which means an image whose shape does not already match will be stretched to fit. On a landscape photo forced into a 9:16 story frame, that is very obvious.
Crop to the target shape first using Crop Image — it has 1:1, 16:9, 4:3 and 3:4 locks — and then apply the preset. The crop decides what stays in frame; the preset just sets the final pixel size.
Upload bigger than you think you need
Every platform recompresses what you upload. Handing it an image that is already small and heavily compressed means it compresses an already-degraded file, and the result looks noticeably worse than the original did.
Give it a clean image at the full preset dimensions and let the platform do its own reduction. That is why these presets are the display sizes rather than something smaller — and why there is no aggressive file-size target on this page.

- What size should an Instagram post be?
- A square post is 1080×1080. A portrait post is 1080×1350, which occupies more of the feed on a phone. Stories and Reels are 1080×1920.
- What size is a YouTube thumbnail?
- 1280×720 pixels, a 16:9 ratio. YouTube also asks that the file stay under 2 MB.
- Why does my image look stretched?
- The preset applies exact dimensions. If your image is a different shape, crop it to the target ratio first, then apply the preset.
- Are my images uploaded?
