Why a PDF and not a folder of photos
Most institutional upload forms — banks, universities, visa applications, insurers, HR systems — accept exactly one file. If your document is four photographed pages, you need those four pages inside one PDF.
A PDF also fixes page order and orientation, so the person receiving it sees the pages in the sequence you intended rather than however their photo viewer happens to sort filenames.

A4 and Letter rotate the page automatically for landscape images, so a wide photo is not shrunk to fit a portrait page.
Getting a readable scan from a phone photo
- Shoot straight down in even light — a shadow across the page survives into the PDF and is impossible to remove afterwards.
- Crop to the page edges before converting. Crop Image removes the desk, the background and a good share of the file size.
- Keep quality high for text. Compression artefacts that are invisible on a photograph make small print noticeably fuzzy.
- Add the images in reading order. Page order follows selection order, so a batch named out of sequence needs adding one at a time.
How the file is built
The PDF is assembled byte by byte in your browser. Each image is embedded as JPEG data inside the document using the format's standard image filter, which means the picture is written straight into the file rather than being re-encoded a second time.
There is no server, no upload and no queue. That matters for the documents people usually convert this way — passports, bank statements, certificates, medical letters — which are precisely the files you should not be handing to an anonymous website.
